About our Wood Light Canopies
Our wood light canopies are handmade on the lathe by turning a 4″ diameter circle of the wood species of your choice into a unique teardrop shape. We then drill a hole that the pendant light’s wire can feed through, and add keyholes on the back of the canopy to fit the screws that connect it to your ceiling box. This makes for an incredibly simple and safe light installation. All of our canopies are finished an oil and wax finish.
Available Wood Species
We are currently offering our handmade wood light canopies in the following wood species:
- Pine (and assorted fir). We make these canopies from reclaimed construction material, but don’t let the language fool you: these canopies are top quality and full of gorgeous grain. And to top it all off, you’re saving scraps from going to the landfill when you buy them.
- Cherry. Cherry needs no introduction. Our cherry canopies offer the silky-smooth grain and unique color variations from chocolate to hues of yellow and gray we all expect from cerry.
- Bubinga. Bubinga is an African hardwood that’s straight-grained and incrediblyt dense. It’s difficult to work but the results are worth it. Bubinga’s color range spans from deep brown to purple.
RC Creative has designed our wood light canopies for a simple installation that should work with a variety of light fixtures, but is designed to work specifically with our wine bottle pendant lights. Feed the wire through the center hole. Make a loop a few inches down the wire just above the canopy. Attach the wire to the black and white (“line” and “load”) wires in your ceiling fixture box. Finally, match the holes on the back of the canopy with the screws on the ceiling box. Push it up, and twist the canopy to lock it in place. Adjust the screws as needed to ensure a snug fit.
